Our friend Doug has a landscaping & lawn maintence company (CurbAppeal by Doug), whom Bailey adored. He created this patch of beauty and serenity by hand, even digging out the pond himself. The plant concept was his too. So I just have to say, Thank you Doug.

I had been away for a week and essentially came home for the weekend, which involved several vet visits to try to boost her energy levels an deal with a low level infection she picked up. I have to say Baily loves her vet! She even drank water from a bowl while there, something I’d never seen her do at his office before. She looks mighty fetching in her sweater we put on her since it was quite cool outside.

The strokes are back too It was hard for me to leave her today as she had 2 major strokes before 1 pm.

We had a treasured moment this weekend that Mary captured with her phone.

Last night we decided to go out for some dinner leaving my father dog sitting for a much needed break. We recently found a new resturant called Sweet Mama’s island cuisine. She has home cooked food at reasonable prices and generous portions. (if you are in the area you realy should go!) Besides we’ve become friends too over the past few weeks. We had a great meal, but Bailey was on our minds So before we left we asked for some curry chicken for Bailey with the hopes it might stimulate her appatite.

After we got home Mary opened the container to let her sniff the contents. No interest… At least at first…

After awhile she shows some interest that she just might be hungry so I shred a small piece of the chicken. To our delight she sat up and gobbled it down. I kept shredding, she kept eating. She ate almost a whole serving (big serving) of chicken!

What’s that I gave her chicken? There was no chicken in front of her! Lol

Curry…. It’s food for the soul!

And just how did we know she likes curry? Well when she first joined us we had a hard time getting her to eat. In fact it’s always been a struggle. One day Mary made a Japanese curry and Bailey showed interest. So she got some, and inhaled. For some time that was all she would eat. So you see, she’s a curry dog at heart. And yes she really does like it spicy!

However, shortly after we got home, Bailey started to weaken again enough that I did take her to the vet. Of course the little booger perked up that day and was running around his office getting into all the mischief she could.

The spark in her step only lasted the day however, and she is now sleeping most of the time, sometimes barely able to make it outside by herself. But she has a determined spirit and will get herself outside

Despite everything, she is alert and aware when she’s awake. She responds to her name, food, and scratches. I’m not sure what’s going to happen from here. She might surprise me once more and rebound, I just can’t say.

 I do believe it was Friday the 4th when Bailey decdided to grace us with the Oregon Trail of Pee. It was one of those moments that if you didn’t laugh, you were going to cry. Bailey got me up that morning to go pee, now she’s still wearing her diaper when she leaves the bedroom. Before I am fully coherent, she’s down the hall and by the back door. I’m stumbling around, not quite awake yet. I’m trying to catch up to her. She paused at the back door for a moment when she decided to make a break for the front door. But, her poor bladder couldn’t hold any more. But wait, she’s wearing a diaper right? Well yes, but you see, it was full… sooo… every time she took a step, not only was there a fountain, but gushing too. You could see the whole trail to the front door.

When Mary came out and saw what happened she just started laughing that she left us the Oregon Trail of pee. What could I do but laugh and be grateful for tile floors and pet clean up spray! It prompted my father to buy the BIG jug of pet clean up spray with a battery operated trigger nozzle! Oy!

All through the weekend we were worried about her, and I had thought to take her to the vet to get her checked out when… She rebounded, because she’s is Bailey the Wonder dog after all!

Last week was decidedly better. A huge interest in food again, breakfast casserole, jerk chicken, curried chicken (yes the dog likes spicey food!) and what ever else we had on our plates (including a bit of avocado!). We’ve discovered the key to feeding Bailey is to let her have what ever we are eating. She eats better when she can smell the food cooking in the house. (Now tell me she isn’t spoiled?)

Last night we went to see our friend who owns a resturant. We of course came back smelling like the resturant and usually bring food back with us. Bailey decided she was going to nose her food, nose the recycle and give us dirty looks for not bringing her anything. Poor abused thing! LOL

So we decided to go to Sonic late last night. And for giggles we took Bailey with us. She does love a good car ride! Of course she smelled burgers all the way home! Before I could even eat mine, she downed the 2 burgers that we had bought for her.

That’s the update for now… I’m leaving her in the care of my father for a week while Mary & I go to a trade show. He even timed his vacation so he could be at home. Gotta love that!

The vet said he only needs to see her if her health starts to decline again. He’s amazed she is still with us. and so are we!

These are easy and delicious pancakes! I soak all of the buttermilk and oats at once. Then I mix everything together, I let sit for 10 minutes. Don’t stir again, I just scoop the mix and drop into the pan. It makes fantastic light, fluffy, melt in the mouth pancakes! I add more cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom because I like it to the mix, but you can adjust to taste.

They are healthy too! You’ll never use bisquick again! They are soooo worth small additional the effort! And Bailey loves them!

For those with dairy allergies, some of the reviewers have used with soy, rice, or almond milk with good results too.

She’s definately having some fiesty moments!
