About Bailey
Bailey came into our lives as a doge we thought was a stray. She was very underweight and not very well at all. To our horror, we found out she had a home, less than a mile from where we live. They took her back after we became very attached to her, completely horrified she was in that condition and had a home. We actually considered dog napping, but she took that karma out of our hands and she ran away to join us once again. We managed to discover that she was 14 years old, but not much more. She’s had a rough life, and deserved some peace and quite. We thought we’d have her in our lives for just a few months. Well that was three years ago.
Bailey is a wonder dog. She is determined that nothing will get her down. She’s old, she knows it, she still plods along with life. We’ve known for a year now that her kidneys were going to fail. Since December we’ve been battling her health issues, because she continues to fight. She has osteoporosis, arthritis, doggie Alzheimer’s, multiple strokes/TIAs, and kidney failure that is affecting her liver. Yet she’s happy. If she has a stroke, she’s up and running around as soon as she can. So here I am, Bailey’s caregiver, giving her the best I can so she can enjoy life to her fullest. She’s on daily IV fluids, blood pressure medication (for her kidneys), and some nutrient supplements.
We thought we’d loose her in June, she was almost 20 pounds under weight, weighing just over 30 pounds. But resilient dog that she is, she’s gaining weight and her health is stable. I started feeding her baby food to get her to eat (which works really well by the way, she loves it!). She wears size 6 diapers at night since she’s a little incontinent.
This is her story.
- I see you!
